Two sentenced for Bensenville illegal-alien scam

The owner of a Bensenville temp agency and her assistant were sentenced to prison Wednesday for harboring illegal aliens and helping them procure jobs with security clearance at O’Hare International Airport.

Mary Gurin, 38, of Carpentersville, owner of Bensenville’s Ideal Staffing, was sentenced to three years in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Elaine E. Bucklo after pleading guilty in May. Gurin’s assistant at Ideal Staffing, Norinye Benitez, 26, of Franklin Park, was sentenced to a year and a day and pleaded guilty last December.

They admitted to knowingly employing at least 54 illegal workers in 2006 and 2007 and fraudulently obtaining airport security badges for them in working at O’Hare.

“The defendants circumvented airport security and the screening process in the name of greed,” said John Morton, assistant secretary of Homeland Security for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Benitez is herself an illegal immigrant and will be delivered to ICE custody after serving her sentence.
